Untangling the Confusion of Using Social Media for your Business
Every minute of the day, there are more people and organisations engaging with and adding to social media sites. It has become the most reactive and inclusive way to communicate, to share and do business. Social media has grown exponentially especially in the Middle East and cannot be forgotten in your marketing strategy.I meet with a lot of small business owners and new entrepreneurs who are mystified by the social media platforms out there. When I tell them that Decluttr Me is on 6 platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, YouTube and Linkedin- click on the names to follow me there!) they seem to have palpitations.
"HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE ON ALL SOCIAL PLATFORMS EVERY DAY?"
My answer always: you have to be organised.
1. First you need to start off with a marketing strategy for your social media. I looked at who my ideal clients are, which platform they are likely to use on a daily basis and what content will interest them. Based on this information, I joined the 6 social media platforms for Decluttr Me.
2, If you follow me on social media you will see that I post 10-12 posts DAILY on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ and approximately 5 on Linkedin and Instagram. This may seem a lot, but due to the algorithms created by these platforms, your posts are being seen by your followers less and less often. The more you post (especially on Facebook) the more chances there are that the follower will see some of your posts.
3. Schedule what you will post at a set time each day. - say a quote at 12pm, your new blog post at 3pm etc. It takes time to understand what content your followers enjoy and the optimal time to post, but you can use Google Analytics to help you schedule your posts at the right time.
4. How do I post so often? I set aside time every week to schedule my posts for the week. By scheduling the posts in an organised manner,I ensure I focus on this one task for a set amount of time each week and also means I can focus on other facets of my business for the rest of the week. It does take a while at the start but once you have a set system in place, scheduling posts and writing posts can take as little as 2 hours a week. There are many other tricks to using social media to help promote your business in an organised way. However, the strategy is different for each business. If you are selling goods for homes, your social media platforms will be different from a B2B service provider. Through trial and error you can find out what is the best platform for you and then organise accordingly. What social media accounts do you use for your business?
