Free Me - the new way to get rid of your decluttered stuff
Often whilst working with clients, especially in bedrooms, we find that post decluttering and organizing there are pieces of unwanted, empty furniture in the room. There are also bags of great quality clothes, toys and kitchen utensils. These items need to leave the house, but what is the best way to get rid of them?I have previously advised on ways to sell your stuff and donate it to charities and not-for-profits in the UAE (see my post here). With the clothes, toys, etc, I often donate them to local charities, but it is a little more difficult to remove the furniture from the home if they have no where to go.Selling your furniture or anything in the UAE can be a painful, heartbreaking experience:
You will always be asked "last price" although you have said in the advert that the price is the last price.
The price is in the advert, but you will be offered 1% of the price.
The buyer will expect you to drop off the item.
They will ask to see the item, but then not turn up.
These are just a few examples, but there are so many other horrible experiences that I have witnessed over the years here.Often clients and followers have items that they would like to sell, but cannot face the ordeal described above, so they decide to give the items away for free to a worthy cause. There are third parties who offer to come and take your stuff away, but often they don't pick up the items or the pick up men say they don't like the items! To help anyone in the UAE give away their items for free, we have started a new initiative on Facebook called "Free Me". From baby clothes to furniture, post it up and maybe find something you need for your home.It will not be a selling page, all posts must be free or for swapping. The Group is for people in the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Qwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah) for now, but depending on how this grows, we will expand it to other regions.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
How it works?- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -1. Take a picture of your item and upload it to the group.2. Add a short description and location details including community (do not give your full address)3. All posts will be viewed and approved by the admins of this Group.4. Anything inappropriate including spam, adult content, etc will not be approved and you will be banned from the group.5. Members who wish to claim the item, comment that they are interested and then private message the person. The person taking the item, must arrange for the items to be collected.
There may be more rules as the group expands, but that's it for now. If you would like to get rid of furniture, baby clothes, kitchen utensils, anything that is in good condition, post it on Free Me.Of course to "free" the items from their home, we need to have lots of followers join the group, so I would appreciate it if you could click here, like the page and share the page with you friends and family in the country. Many thanks!
