Decluttr Tip - Bedroom
Your bedroom is your sanctuary. If you go to sleep or wake up to clutter this can affect your mood and also your sleep at night. If you are drowning in items, clothes, wires, etc it's time to declutter. Here are a few simple steps to get you starting the process:
1. Daily Routine
Make your bed every day in the morning. A decluttered bed will put you in a good mood instantly.
Open the curtains and blinds to allow the sun into your room.
When you come home, hang your clothes or put them in a laundry basket. Do not throw them on furniture or the bed.
On your bedside cabinet, have one book which you are reading at the time, water and one or two photos.
Review the items in your room every day. Throw it or donate it if it adds clutter to your room.
2. Streamline your furnitureThe more dressers, chairs and tables you have in your wardrobe the more you will fill it with stuff.Go through the furniture and choose the pieces that you love and enhance your room. Dressers are the main culprit of adding clutter to your room, so remove them first.Remove the remaining furniture and donate (try http://takemyjunkuae.com) or sell (Dubbizle is one site to use).Clean the walls and even paint them before you return the furniture back to the room.
3. Review your clothingOver time we accumulate too many clothes, shoes and accesories. You need to go through the items every six months and remove the ones that don't meet the criteria in this diagram. The key point is to see if the items fit, are not broken or torn, and not outdated. If th answer to all these points is no, throw or donate these items.Create a box or container in your wardrobe for donation. Over time when the item is no longer wearable put it in the container. Once it is full , take it to the charity shop/bin or resell it at a flea market.Once you have decluttered the clothing, separate them into shirts, dresses, skirts, trousers, jeans etc. Organise the items by colour or from light to dark. For out of season items, store them in a Samla box and store in your wardrobe and rotate each season.Remove anything from the floor of your wardrobe. Put shoes in a shoe cupboard and hang ties on a hanger.
4. Streamline the bedding: Rather than have patterned sheets that can fade at different times or could be part ruined if you spill say red wine on the duvet, buy one block colour such as white which you can easily replace if damaged. The Marks and Spencer's range of Egyptian cotton sheets are lovely to sleep on and last for a long time. And if you do need to replace them they are always available in their stores.
You may not be ready to start the declutter process yourself, so contact us and we can help you start the decluttering and organisation process. For decluttering of bedrooms we usually suggest an 8 hour session and then if more time is needed we can add this on after the first session. The prices can be found here.
You can then start your day and end your night in a peaceful mind every day.
